Types of Progressive Cavity Pump

Constant Temperature Progressive Cavity Pump

A progressive cavity pump (PCP) is a type of positive displacement pump used in various industrial applications. One of the most common forms of a PCP is a Constant temperature progressive cavity pump. This pump is designed to regulate the temperature to prevent damage to the pump or the fluid being pumped.

Single Progressive Cavity Pump

G TYPE Single Progressive Cavity Pump, commonly known as the G-Type pump, is a specialized type of positive displacement pump that is commonly used in various industrial applications. It consists of two major parts, the rotor and the stator, which work together to create a pumping action.

Submerged Progressive Cavity Pump

Submerged progressive cavity pumps are an essential component of the oil and gas industry, as well as other fields such as water treatment and mining. These pumps can handle a wide range of fluids, including abrasive, viscous, and corrosive substances.

Maintenance of Progressive Cavity Pump

Daily Maintenance

• Monitor flow, pressure, speed, and motor current. Fluctuations may signal medium changes, blockages, or wear; high current indicates jams/overloads. Check vibration with detectors—abnormalities from misalignment or bearing damage require shutdown. Listen for odd noises (friction/impact) indicating wear or poor lubrication.
• Maintain lubrication: Check oil level/quality; replace oil per schedule. Grease bearings appropriately. For seals: Adjust mechanical seal bolts for minor leaks, replace elements if severe. For packing seals, ensure slight leakage (few drops/min) for lubrication. Daily exterior checks: Fix leaks and keep the pump clean.

Regular Maintenance

• Weekly: Inspect motor terminals, clean inlet filters, check couplings.
• Monthly: Measure insulation resistance, check bearing temperature, test controls.
• Quarterly: Disassemble to check rotor/stator wear, clean parts, overhaul seals.
• Annually: Fully disassemble to inspect all components (bearings, shafts), check foundations, and recommission.

Special Situation Maintenance

• Long shutdown: Empty and clean the pump, rust-proof exposed parts, and hand-turn regularly to prevent component adhesion.
• If medium properties (viscosity, corrosiveness) change, adjust parameters or replace suitable components. For sudden failures (motor burnout, jamming, pipe rupture), stop the pump, cut power/medium, fix issues (replace parts, clear debris), and analyze causes.

FAQ

Q: What is a progressive cavity pump (PCP)?

A: A progressive cavity pump uses a helical rotor rotating inside a stator. As it rotates, a sequence of cavities move the fluid forward, creating continuous smooth flow.

Q: What types of fluids are suitable for a progressive cavity pump?

A: Viscous fluids, sludge, slurry, shear-sensitive fluids, or fluids containing solids where gentle continuous flow is required.

Q: Is the flow from a progressive cavity pump smooth or pulsating?

A: Flow is smooth and nearly pulse-free, ideal for metering, dosing or processes needing stable flow.

Q: Can you customize PCP for special fluids or working conditions?

A: Yes. We can select suitable rotor/stator materials (elastomer, metal, etc.) and design configuration based on fluid properties and solids concentration.

Q: In which industries is PCP most often used?

A: PCP is widely used in wastewater handling, sludge processing, mining, chemical plants, food processing, and other sectors needing stable flow of viscous or solid-containing fluids.

Q: Does fluid viscosity or solid content heavily affect flow stability?

A: No. Because PCP is a positive-displacement pump, flow rate depends mainly on rotor speed, so viscosity or moderate solids have less effect on stable flow.

Q: Can PCP handle solids or abrasive content?

A: Yes — with proper stator/rotor material selection, PCP can pump fluids with solids, sludges or slurries, though abrasion and wear must be considered.
